The 85th edition of the oldlympics started this month, an unexpected new record makes the Seniorans wild about the event. ‘It costed me blood sweat and tears!’, says Mrs. Smith who took the title from the previous record holder Fernand Cooper. Ann-Murray did 10 800 meter rounds in 52 minutes instead of 56. All of Seniorian watched how she took the blessing of the new record title.

It isn’t only something unbelievable for her, but also for all women in Seniorian. ‘Cause it is a once in a blue moon thing that a woman wins, because one sees this discipline already more like a men's sport. In this way Smith proves that every elderly woman can still race as if she’s 20.

It was a very exciting race, we saw Mrs. Smith first at the squad and after 5 laps she demarred to the leading group and she hanged in there. At the very end, it was a neck-to-neck race together with Caroline MaCanzie, but 500 meters before the end, MaCanzie her engine exploded and unfortunately she could do nothing more than to quit the race. That was the time where Smith took her chance and had as good as free play ‘till the finish line.

‘There will be a lot of people who will say that I just had pure luck, but my team and I know better. We’ve trained 6 months, 4 times a week, Dieting, the best medical care,... This is my way to reward my team, by winning.’, calls a very happy Ann-Murray Smith. (ZT)
